About Penshurst

Wetland Gardens at PenshurstPenshurst is located 70km north of Warrnambool, 30km south of the Grampians and 277km south west of Melbourne on the Hamilton Highway. The town is nestled at the foot of a dormant volcano, Mount Rouse and is a great base to explore the beautiful Grampians National Park.  Agriculture is the main industry in the area.

Penshurst and District Health Service is located on the northern edge of Penshurst and provides a comprehensive range of services that include acute care, nursing home care, a hostel, District Nursing Service, Meals on Wheels and a range of allied health Services.

Department of Health Victoria  Gateway to a range of health information for the community and health professionals, including links to the Better Health Channel, publications, food safety alerts, public hospitals and health services statistics, aged care resources, career information and employment opportunties.

Otway Division of General Practice (ODGP)  The Otway DGP, located in south west Victoria, provides education, training and practice management support to allied health, nursing and medical practitioners. They also manage a variety of programs that provide information and support to the community they represent on a wide range of health issues.

Shopping

The Penshurst Licensed Grocer is located in Bell Street for most of your supermarket needs. Hamilton is only a twenty minute drive should you require anything that is not available here. Please note that the opening hours are typically more restricted than those in the city.

Dining

There are several cafes, restaurants and food establishments in and around Penshurst. The larger centre of Hamilton is approximately 31 kilometres away.

Sports, Recreation and Tourism

Visitors can enjoy the Penshurst Water Gardens or follow Victoria’s Volcanic Trail, of which Mount Rouse is a feature. The Mt Rouse lookout presents sweeping views of the Western District.

Boating enthusiasts can head 10 kilometres out of town to Lake Linlithgow.

There is currently no library facility or public internet access in Penshurst.

Post Offices, Fuel and Other Services

The Penshurst Post Office is located at 31 Martin Street and is open 9.00am - 5.00pm, Monday to Friday.

There are numerous places of worship in Penshurst. For further information on places of worship, contact the Hamilton Visitor Information Centre, or the church directly.

Local Transport

There is no public transport in Penshurst. Due to the small size of the town most major facilities are within walking distance of one another.

Travel Times

Penshurst is located 277 kilometres south west of Melbourne and is accessible by both car and train/bus. The travel time by car is approximately three and a half hours.
