About Mount Gambier
Mount Gambier is the largest regional city in South Australia with a population of 23,000. It is located on the Princes Highway between Adelaide and Melbourne, just within the South Australian border. The streets and houses of Mount Gambier are built around the slopes of an extinct volcano 27.37 kilometres from the sea, with the city climbing almost to the lip of the famous Blue Lake, and the outskirts extending on to the rich volcanic soil of the surrounding plain. Due to the plentiful supply of underground water complimented by good rainfall, fertile soil, temperate climate and flat land suitable for primary industry, agriculture contributes significantly to Mount Gambier’s economy.
