About Heywood

Heywood is situated south of Hamilton on the Princes Highway. The town was developed as a saw milling area and service centre for agriculture. A visit in February each year will be rewarded with the "Wood, Wine and Roses Festival" and the delights of local arts, crafts, parades, rides, food and wine tastings. Heywood's roses are a sight to behold and a trip to the Bolwarra Berry Farm or a visit to the rambling Bowerbird Nest and Garden are highly recommended. A special 90km "Wood, Wine and Roses Forest Drive" from Portland is a great way to see and sample the delights of the area.

The Lake Condah Aboriginal Mission, situated 25kms north east of Heywood, affords a valuable insight into the history of Victoria’s Indigenous people, and is well worth a visit.  The Winda Mara Aboriginal Corporation in Scott Street, Heywood, promotes and explains past and present Koori culture. Local artists exhibit and sell artefacts at the centre.
