About Edenhope
Edenhope is a town of approximately 1,000 people and is the administrative hub of the West Wimmera Shire Council. The town is surrounded by sheep, cattle and crop farms. The first European settlers were the Hope family, who established the Lake Wallace pastoral station in 1845 and the town's name derives from the fact that the Hopes were from the River Eden in Scotland. There are historical building sites to visit and at certain times of the year, festivals, stalls and markets.
Edenhope is a nature-lovers paradise. It is situated on the banks of Lake Wallace (named after William Wallace, the first white man to see it) and is home to the extremely rare red-tailed black cockatoo. Nature enthusiasts will find abundant bird life that can be viewed from the Back Swamp Boardwalk and Hide.
