Coleraine

About Coleraine

Situated in a beautiful valley on the banks of Bryan's Creek, 35 kilometres west of Hamilton, Coleraine’s surrounding landscape was the inspiration for poet Adam Lindsay Gordon's The Fields of Coleraine. On the hills overlooking Coleraine stands the Peter Francis Points Arboretum, a reserve boasting over 12,000 native plants and recognised as the most extensive collection of eucalyptus species in the Southern Hemisphere.

The arboretum adds a beautiful backdrop to the town with its colour and leafy texture. The Eucalypt Discovery Centre, situated in Whyte Street, is designed to complement 'The Points' and serves as an interactive, interpretive facility for student groups and visitors. Visitors can sample sweet delights at the Glenelg Fine Confectionary, a family owned business renowned for its tasty chocolate delights made on the premises. Other activities that can be enjoyed at Coleraine include fishing, gem fossicking, golf, horse racing, lawn bowls, scenic drives, swimming, tennis and croquet.
