Camperdown

Centred in the heart of the 'Lakes and Craters Country', Camperdown is central to one of Australia's richest agricultural farming districts. This pleasant rural town has a population of approximately 3,200 and services a wide area of dairy, sheep and beef farming communities. Camperdown features an 'Avenue of Elms' along the main street and is distinguished by being on the world's third-largest volcanic plain. The plain is dotted with volcanic cones  - Mount Leura being the largest in the local area and numerous lakes which have formed in volcanic craters.

Department of Health Victoria  Gateway to a range of health information for the community and health professionals, including links to the Better Health Channel, publications, food safety alerts, public hospitals and health services statistics, aged care resources, career information and employment opportunties.

Otway Division of General Practice (ODGP)  The Otway DGP, located in south west Victoria, provides education, training and practice management support to allied health, nursing and medical practitioners. They also manage a variety of programs that provide information and support to the community they represent on a wide range of health issues.

Shopping

There are three large supermarket chains - IGA, Safeway and FoodWorks - in Camperdown. Please note that the opening hours are typically more restricted than those in the city.

The Camperdown Craft Market is also held in Finlay Avenue from 10.00am - 2.00pm on the first Sunday of every month.

Dining

Camperdown offers a variety of dining out options that range from pub meals to cafes, homely restaurants and take away stores.

Sports, Recreation and Tourism

Camperdown has plenty of attractions in the immediate vicinity - the volcanic Lakes Gnotuk and Bulleen Merri are the perfect location for water sports, and the Mt. Leura lookout is the location of an annual hill climb. The Leura Festival is held in the last week of February and a Heritage Day is celebrated on the first Sunday in November.

The racecourse boasts one of Country Victoria’s best-known grandstands. Lake Corangamite and the Historic Museum are also popular destinations. Camperdown's Theatre Royal shows movies on a weekly basis, as well as special events hosted by visiting and local Performing Arts groups.

There are four major banks in Camperdown - the Australia and New Zealand Bank (ANZ), Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA), National Australia Bank (NAB), and Westpac. Bank hours are typically 9.00am - 4.00pm Monday to Friday, although ATMs allow 24/7 access to funds.

Library and Internet Access

The Camperdown Library is located in Manifold Street and is open Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 12.00pm - 5.30pm and from 10.00am - 12.00pm on a Saturday. Internet access is available here to students.

Post Offices, Fuel and Other Services

The Camperdown Post Shop is located at 190-192 Manifold Street and is open from 9.00am - 5.00pm Monday to Friday.

There are two petrol stations located in Camperdown in Manifold Street.

Camperdown also has a laundromat located in Manifold Street.

Camperdown is accessible from Melbourne by car, bus and train. Camperdown is located 194 kilometres south west of Melbourne with a travel time by car of approximately two hours.
