About Beachport
Beachport is a beautiful town with enormous appeal. The town has the relaxed atmosphere you get when you're on a beach holiday. There'e plenty to do whether you're swimming in the crystal waters, strolling along the clean beaches or going fishing and boating.
Originally named "Wirmalngrang" by the local Booandik Aboriginals, Beachport became a popular whaling station at the mouth of Lake George in the 1830s.
Beachport and nearby Rivoli Bay are approximately fifty-one kilometres south of Robe. There are safe swimming beaches and three museums which canvass the region’s whaling, shipping, military and Aboriginal heritage.
The town is host of one of Australia's longest jetty's being 772-metres and extending into Rivoli Bay.
Shopping
Beachport has a Friendly Grocer located in Railway Tce. Please note that the opening hours are typically more restricted than those in the city, and in most towns the typical opening hours are from 7am-10pm daily.
Dining
There is a choice of places to dine out ranging from Fish and Chips to A la Carte meals, and lots of local fresh seafood, to choose from.
Attractions
Beachport offers a breathtaking scenic drive. Along Foster Street you will come across a lighthouse that looks over Penguin Island. The lighthouse was built in 1878 on Penguin Island and was moved to the mainland in 1960. Here you can lookout over Penguin Island and watch the penguins, fur seals and silver gulls. Just make sure to bring your binoculars.
Another main attraction in Beachport is the Pool of Siloam. This is a salt lake that is 7 times saltier than the sea and is fed by underground springs. It is very popular for therapeutic purposes and if you don’t feel like swimming you can just float around due to the buoyancy the high salinity provides.
Sport and Recreation
Beachport has a lot to choose from in the way of sport and recreation. There is a Golf Course, Tennis Courts, Recreation Hall and the local Surf Beach, which is a popular surfing spot for people of all ages.

Banks
While there are no banks in Beachport there are numerous ATM’s located around the town that are accessible 24/7. Should you need to go to a bank, there is a Westpac bank situated in Millicent, which is a 20 minute drive away.
Libraries
There are currently no libraries located in Beachport.

Post Offices
The Beachport Post Office is located at 2 Foster St and is open from 9am-5pm Monday-Friday, 9am-1pm Saturday and 11am-3pm on a Sunday.

Beachport is located 385 kilometres south east of Adelaide and is accessible by both car and bus.
The travel time is approximately 5 hours by car from Adelaide to Beachport.
