About Apollo Bay
Apollo Bay was named in 1845 after Captain Loutit's ship 'The Apollo' and is located on the Great Ocean Road in close proximity to the spectacular Otway Rain Forest and Twelve Apostles National Park. Tourism is the fastest growing industry in the region, with fishing and dairy, beef and sheep farming also prevalent in the area. With a population of 1,300, temperatures in Apollo Bay average 21 degrees celsius in summer and 13 degrees celsius in winter.

Health Services
Otway Health and Community Services was one of three multi-purpose health services established in Victoria in 1995. It provides community health, hospital, aged accommodation, adult education, palliative care, community nursing, allied health and home-based community care services to people residing in the township and the surrounding area.

Otway Division of General Practice (ODGP) The Otway DGP, located in south west Victoria, provides education, training and practice management support to allied health, nursing and medical practitioners. They also manage a variety of programs that provide information and support to the community they represent on a wide range of health issues.

Shopping
IGA X-press and FoodWorks are the local supermarkets and in addition to the numerous shops in Apollo Bay, the major shopping centres of Geelong and Lorne aren’t far away. Please note that the opening hours are typically more restricted than those in the city.
There is also a local market on the foreshore every Saturday from 9.00am - 1.00pm.
Dining
Apollo Bay has a select variety of quality cafes, restaurants and take away to choose from, and you can't go past the fresh seafood available daily from the Fisherman's Co-Op at the Apollo Bay Pier.
Sports, Recreation and Tourism
There are endless things to do in Apollo Bay - visits to the Museum, the Marine Park, the harbour or strolling through the spectacular rainforests. There are numerous walking trails, and water activities, including fishing, surfing and swimming. Main beach, Skenes Creek and Marengo are popular locations. Great surf beaches surround Apollo Bay – in particular, Kennett, Johanna and Wye River are favoured by experienced board riders and swimmers.

Banks
There are three major banks - Westpac, Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA) and the Bendigo Bank - in Apollo Bay. Bank hours are typically 9.00am - 4.00pm Monday to Friday, although ATMs allow 24/7 access to funds.
Libraries and Internet Access
The Apollo Bay Library is located in Pengilley Avenue and is open Wednesday from 10.00am - 1.00pm and Friday from 1.30pm - 5.00pm.
Internet access is available to students in Apollo Bay at the Apollo Bay College in Pengilley Avenue, Monday to Friday from 3.30pm - 5.00pm.
Post Offices, Fuel and Other Services
The Apollo Bay Post Office is located at 155-159 Great Ocean Road and is open Monday to Friday from 9.00am - 5.30pm.
A Mobil service station is located on the Great Ocean Road and is open 6.00am - 10.00pm.
Apollo Bay has one laundromat, located on Moore Street, open daily from 8.00am - 8.00pm.

Travel Times
Apollo Bay is accessible from Melbourne by car, bus and train (Via Geelong). Apollo Bay is located 194 kilometres south west of Melbourne, a scenic three and a half hours drive by car via the Great Ocean Road. A more direct route is via Forrest and Birregurra, and takes approximately three hours.
