Mount Gambier and District Tertiary Health Education Grants Program
The Mount Gambier and District Tertiary Health Education Grants Program commenced in 2007 and is a continuing pilot program aimed at encouraging persons whose principal place of residence is normally within the City of Mount Gambier or District (or where their immediate family resides), and who need to leave the region in order to undertake university studies in identified areas of need. These skills areas typically have a focus on medicine and allied health, and have been recognised as important to the Mount Gambier and District community.
A partnership has been developed with the two local Councils, the Mount Gambier City Council and District Council of Grant, the Mount Gambier Private Hospital Inc., local businesses and the community to provide funding for a number of scholarships each year. The GGT UDRH supports one of these scholarships which is known as the "Greater Green Triangle University Department of Rural Health (GGT UDRH) Mount Gambier and District Tertiary Health Education Grant Scholarship".
In 2012, the Program will again focus on skill shortages in medicine, health and allied health vocations in the Mount Gambier district. Up to ten (10) grants are available vauled at $2000 per student and it is hoped that by providing these grants it will encourage recipients to return to the City and District after graduation.
