Current Education and Training Programs
Indigenous Health
Aboriginal Cultural Awareness Training: GGT UDRH program funded via the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing and run in collaboration with local Aboriginal communities. The program aims to expose students and health professionals to Aboriginal health and cultural issues of the region, with the hope that such exposure will help students and health professionals to see that what they do as individuals can make a difference to the health and well being of Aboriginal people.
Reference Material: A range of material that aims to help improve a student's understanding of Aboriginal health and to provide practical advice to students who may work with Aboriginal clients during their clinical placement - Aboriginal Health- Definitions of Health and Key Points, Key Influences on Aboriginal Health; Mortality and Morbidity; Practical Considerations for Health Practitioners Working with Aboriginal Clients; Presentations of Ill health in Aboriginal Populations.
Mental Health
University Department of Rural Health Mental Health Project: Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing-funded program providing support and training to health professionals and raising awareness of, and the need for improved management of, mental health issues. The program also works with the GGT UDRH's Student Support program to increase the number, and improve the experience, of students from mental health disciplines, like psychology and occupational therapy, who undertake their clinical placement in the Greater Green Triangle region.
Pharmacy
Rural Pharmacy Program Officer (RPLO): Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing-funded program that focusses on the education and training needs of pharmacists based in rural and remote areas. This project replaces the previous Pharmacist Academics at University Departments of Rural Health (PAUDRH) program. This program works closely with the GGT UDRH's Student Support program to increase the number and improve the experience of pharmacy students placed in the region.
Primary Health Care
Health Workforce Australia (HWA) Distributed Simulation Project: Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing-funded project to develop, implement and evaluate a model of distributed simulation through the GGT UDRH to improve clinical training capacity for professional entry students in rural and remote areas.
Primary Health Care Research Evaluation and Development (PHCRED) Program: Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing-funded program that closed on 31st December, 2011. However the GGT UDRH will continue with providing selected training programs and resources to primary health care workers within the Greater Green Triangle region.
Public Health
Population Health Seminars: GGT UDRH program funded via the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing. The program aims to expose students on clinical placement to the population and disease trends in the Greater Green Triangle region, and to the challenges of rurality and it's implications for public health and Aboriginal health. Health professionals are also welcome to attend.
