Dr Michael Coates (PhD) is the Deputy Director of the GGT UDRH and was the Coordinator of the Primary Health Care Research Evaluation and Development (PHCRED) program. While the current phase of PHCRED has come to an end, he will continue to provide research supervision and mentorship for affiliated researchers as well as Department staff.
Dr Coates is a member of the research team working on the True Blue project, which is examining models of collaborative care for depression in patients with diabetes and heart disease. He is currently working on a NHMRC grant that aims to improve models to track the prevalence of type 2 diabetes in culturally and linguistically diverse population groups and to predict areas of high risk.
He has an interest in primary health care and rural health issues, with his main research interests focussing on the application of numerical (computer) modelling of national and global health issues.
Dr Coates previously held a position as Senior Lecturer with Deakin University.
