Frances Walsh has worked part-time in the Department's Mount Gambier office since June 2009 under the Pharmacist Academics at University Departments of Rural Health (PAUDRH) program.  Previously Frances held several hospital and retail positions in rural and regional Australia and the United Kingdom.  She continues to work part-time in community pharmacy. Having grown up in the Greater Green Triangle region in Hamilton, this rurally-based academic pharmacist position provides the ideal platform for Frances to develop her passion for supporting rural pharmacy.

Frances works across many areas of academic pharmacy including student mentoring, pharmacist support and research.  Frances has a broad educational role in the Department, including delivery of monthly Population Health Seminars, which are available to all health students undertaking clinical or research placements in the area.  She also lectures Mount Gambier-based medical students and junior medical staff on various medication-related topics, and provides intensive tutelage to intern pharmacists based in the region.  A key focus for the future of the PAUDRH program is to develop and expand mentoring and educational opportunities for allied health and medical students, and to foster inter-disciplinary learning in the region.
